This collection of guides is designed to assist admins, support teams, and teacher success teams in onboarding their tutors to the Lessonspace platform, an interactive online classroom software. These guides provide assistance with troubleshooting technical difficulties and preparing tutors for their first session on Lessonspace, addressing common questions and concerns.
What to expect in a first session on Lessonspace
First sessions on Lessonspace are usually smooth, but some users may require assistance depending on their technical setup.
Here are some important considerations:
- Ensure that all users have a strong and stable internet connection.
- Make sure they are using a supported device and browser, and that they have the most recent version of their browser installed.
- When joining for the first time, users may be prompted to grant camera and microphone permissions. They need to click on "Allow" to grant Lessonspace access to their audiovisual equipment.
- After joining the link, they will enter the "Lobby". Here, they can test their devices and when they are ready, they can click on "Join" to enter the Space.

💡 Space refers to the classroom link that users join, while a session is an individual lesson held within that Space.

Common problems and solutions when entering the Space for the first time
-
I can only see myself in the Space.
- Make sure that you have entered the Space, and not just the Lobby. Wait until your student joins or ensure that your student has enabled permissions.
-
I can't see or hear my student.
- Make sure your student reloads the page and clicks Allow when asked for permissions.

-
I can't share my screen.
- Make sure to enable your browser permissions for screen sharing. This is necessary for Lessonspace to access your screen and share it in the Space. Please note that macOS Catalina (10.15) and later will require special permissions. You can find more information on how to enable screen recording permission here. Please note that screen sharing is not supported on iPads.
-
Lessonspace is not working on my iPad.
- Make sure that you are using the most recent version of Safari. Safari 15 includes some bugs that prevent audio and video from working properly, so please update to a more recent version.
How to use the built-in troubleshooting menu during a lesson
Lessonspace offers a built-in troubleshooting menu that allows participants to report any issues they are experiencing during a live session. This menu is available to all users, enabling tutors to quickly identify and help resolve any issues students may be facing.
To access the troubleshooting menu, follow these steps:
- While in a Space, navigate to Setup > Troubleshooting.
- Check if everything is working correctly. If there is a problem, a red "!" icon will appear on the video feed.
- The troubleshooting menu provides prompts to assist users in resolving any issues they may encounter.
